In September, we learned about the home and different types of houses. We named the various rooms in a house and talked about how these rooms are used. We also named the furniture in these rooms. During role-play, the children got into character as Mammy, Daddy or a child in the family. They cooked dinner, cleaned the kitchen, did the washing and ironing, made the bed and swept the floor. In the construction area, the children were architects and designed fabulous houses, castles, apartments etc. before building them from bricks and lego. We read about the Three Little Pigs and the children constructed their houses from ‘straw, wood and bricks’ in an art activity. Everyone enjoyed painting their dream homes and it was great fun to build these homes in the sand pit afterwards.
